The requirement was to create a canteen space capable of accommodating a sizable number of staff, whilst introducing a welcoming and homely ambiance. The canteen was designed with a diverse selection of furniture giving employees choice and creating a range of spaces for dining, socialising & unwinding after long work hours.
We used a feature Navy colour throughout the space with a mix of lighter finishes and complimentary colours to give a harmonious feel. The addition of wooden finishes and artificial plants bring the outside in, creating an inviting and relaxed environment.
A nod to the Dorchester’s history is reflected in the use of terrazzo and materials reminiscent of the hotel’s past. Whilst elements such as arches, wallpaper and copper decor mimic the hotels use of art deco style and luxurious materials and carrying through to the staff area.
We added a Timber half height divider wall addressing both functionality and aesthetics, reducing noise from servery into the main canteen and maintaining a visual connection throughout the space. Contrasting LVT flooring and linear lighting highlight the circulation space surrounding the canteen, whilst feature lighting in the seating areas enhances the overall atmosphere.
